About

Machine Women is a series of research and development activities leading to a new site-responsive touring theatre performance in 2015.
A new international artistic collaboration between Luan Blake (formerly Ragroof Theatre) and Mimi McGarry (Berlin), exploring experiences of female factory workers and machinists in the UK, and the working conditions/physical reality of factory life.
Project activity will take place in Newhaven and Lancashire mentored by Festival Producer Robin Morley (Magnetic events). Activities include participant interviews, interpreting oral histories, workshops to create innovative staging, choreography and sound designs.
This new artistic collaboration will include creative exploration between Luan Blake (Uk), Mimi McGarry (Berlin), Nick Hudson (UK), Dan McGarry (Berlin) and Jodie Rowe (UK).
The oral testimonies and research will inspire creative workshops exploring dynamic choreography, innovative sound composition, film, and text from the personal interviews.
In 2015 we will create a visceral performance inspired by this R and D phase, to tour across the UK to factories, mills, museums and other unusual sites.
